Shift At Midnight Night 4 Walkthrough — Gas Pumps, Car Checks, and Rats

Quick answer

Ask what the driver needs, inspect every car hotspot with the pump flashlight, search the exact plate on the outdoor registry, question mismatches, ignore ordinary crimes, and pump gas only after both the driver and vehicle pass.

Quick objective

Night 4 adds fuel customers and makes the vehicle a second evidence object. A sale is safe only after the driver's story, flashlight inspection, and exact license-plate record agree. Keep serving shop customers through the normal identity workflow, and clear the manager's timed rat task before the next customer for the bonus.

Learn the vehicle-checking workflow

N4-M01 — Read the gas-pump notice

Start at the notice board. Contractors have repaired the gas pump, so drivers now join your existing store duties. The notice is explicit that either the driver or the car can be a doppelganger. Do not treat a familiar-looking driver as proof that the vehicle is safe.

The Night 4 notice announces the repaired gas pump and warns that drivers or their cars may be doppelgangers.

Fuel duty is added to the normal store loop; it does not replace customer verification.

N4-M02 — Read all four instructions beside the pump

The pump note gives the fixed order for every vehicle encounter:

  1. Ask the driver how you can help.
  2. Use the supplied flashlight to search the car for suspicious items.
  3. Enter the license plate on the registry device to the right.
  4. Question the driver about the topics unlocked by the search and registry result.

If the story does not line up, you may open fire. The final reminder is equally important: you are not a police officer. Ignore normal crimes and act only on doppelganger threats.

The pump-side instruction sheet lists the flashlight, plate registry, questioning, and normal-crime rule.

Follow this order even when a car looks suspicious at first glance.

N4-M03 — Ask what the driver wants before touching the pump

Talk to the driver first and remember the requested dollar amount. The conversation starts the inspection and gives you the service request that must be completed after the evidence check. Do not begin pumping while inspection topics are still unresolved.

A Night 4 driver states the requested amount of gas at the pump.

The requested amount belongs to this encounter; do not carry a number over from another driver or run.

N4-M04 — Search every highlighted part of the car with the flashlight

Take the pump flashlight and walk around the entire vehicle. Check the cabin, trunk or cargo area, wheels, body panels, and any other outline that offers an Open / Close or inspection interaction. Opening a compartment is not enough by itself: point the light at the contents and interact with each suspicious item so its questioning topic unlocks. If the objective still says the car has not been searched efficiently, you missed a hotspot.

The supplied flashlight highlights an openable vehicle compartment during the Night 4 inspection.

Circle the car and finish every interaction rather than stopping after the first open door.

N4-M05 — Separate ordinary crime from doppelganger evidence

A suspicious object is a reason to ask a question, not an automatic death sentence. In one verified run, the trunk contained a pile of firearms, but the driver gave a humanly possible explanation and the car passed. The same rule applies to an expired registration: it can be unlawful without being supernatural. Continue the full check unless the object itself is physically impossible or the driver's answer contradicts verified evidence.

A flashlight reveals a pile of guns in a driver's trunk, an ordinary crime that does not by itself prove a doppelganger.

Night 4 tests whether you can resist treating illegality as nonhuman evidence.

N4-M06 — Enter the exact plate in the outdoor registry

Read the physical plate and type it into the small registry terminal beside the pump, not the store's N.E.T. person database. Compare every returned field with the actual vehicle: body type, color, visible wear or dirt, wheel condition, and registration status. The terminal says its details are updated weekly, so use the record displayed in the current run. A wrong character or No Results must be resolved before you approve the driver.

The vehicle registry returns plate 04LJ with the car description and registration status.

Match the plate and the complete car description; a plate match alone is not the whole vehicle check.

N4-M07 — Question every unlocked topic, then pump the gas

Return to the driver and question the license plate, car description, and every item discovered by the flashlight. Compare the answer with what you personally saw and what the registry returned. When all human and vehicle evidence is consistent, attach the nozzle, hold the pump interaction until the requested sale completes, return the nozzle, and tell the driver to leave. If a verified contradiction remains, do not complete the transaction.

The fuel nozzle is attached to the verified car after its inspection topics have been resolved.

Fueling is the final service action, after the evidence decision—not a shortcut around it.

Keep the store running between cars

N4-O01 — Continue the complete ID workflow for walk-in customers

Fuel duty does not simplify the checkout counter. For each walk-in customer, scan the ID, open the exact N.E.T. record, compare the portrait and descriptive traits, ask about questionable details, and confirm the database status before accepting. Customer identities and order vary, so use recorded people only as examples. In one clean run, Rolf Bush's author occupation, mobility scooter, goatee, and answers all agreed; his unusual presentation was not a reason to shoot.

A walk-in customer's scannable N.E.T. identification card is checked during Night 4.

A verified shop customer answers a profile question consistently at the counter.

Apply the same verified-record standard indoors and outside.

N4-O02 — Buy and stage survival supplies before an alert

Use the Shop tab during a quiet gap, not while a driver is waiting or a timer is active. Bandages restore health once, a backpack expands inventory, and a stun mine can briefly stop an enemy. Buy only what your current funds allow, keep defensive purchases accessible, and leave enough money for the medicine bill. These purchases are optional, but staging them now makes the conditional hunt much safer.

The Night 4 Store Supplies screen offers bandages, a backpack, a stun mine, a landmine, and an explosive.

Prepare before the red countdown removes your shopping time.

N4-M08 — Answer the manager and clear the rats before the next customer

When the phone objective appears, answer it immediately. The manager reports rats pouring from the bathroom and offers a bonus if you clear them before the next customer. Move to the restroom, chase down each rat, and use the shown grab-and-throw interaction or an available weapon to dispose of it while watching the countdown and progress counter. Search the shop and doorway if one escapes the room; the task completes only after every rat is disposed of.

The store phone rings with the timed Night 4 rat objective active.

A rat is ready to be grabbed and disposed of while the bonus countdown and progress counter remain on screen.

Do not return to a transaction until the objective clears or the bonus timer expires.

Recognize decisive Night 4 contradictions

N4-M09 — Treat a physically impossible car part as direct evidence

Search the car interior closely even when its plate and exterior appear normal. A seat made from exposed flesh is not an ordinary vehicle defect or crime; it is a physically impossible mutation. Question the driver if the topic is available, then reject the encounter without pumping gas. This is the clearest example of why the flashlight check cannot be skipped.

A Night 4 vehicle contains a fleshy seat exposed by the flashlight inspection.

A verified plate cannot overrule an impossible object inside the car.

N4-M10 — Check the exact body side named by the profile

Read directional traits literally. In one verified example, Linda Carver's record specified a red-eye tattoo on her left hand, but the customer presented it on the opposite hand. Look at the customer from their perspective, inspect both sides, and question the trait. A tattoo on the wrong hand is a direct profile contradiction; different-colored eyes or an unusual occupation are not contradictions when they match the record.

Linda Carver's verified profile specifies a red-eye tattoo on her left hand.

The player closely checks the hand where the customer claims the tattoo is located.

Verify left and right from the customer's body, not from your screen position.

Conditional branch: the entity alert

This branch appears after a doppelganger completes a transaction. A clean Night 4 run can reach closing without it, while a second verified run triggered the alert after a missed customer. If the store turns red, stop the normal route and follow the countdown immediately.

N4-M11 — Use the 60 seconds for traps, barricades, and weapons

The alert announces that the entity will arrive in 60 seconds. Drop restocking, shopping, and cleanup. Lay traps on paths into the store, barricade exterior doors with planks, and take at least one firearm from the storage-room emergency arsenal. Confirm that boards are visibly attached; an unfinished interaction does not secure the door.

The red Night 4 warning announces that the alerted entity will arrive in 60 seconds.

The hunt objective orders the player to lay traps, barricade doors, and take a weapon from storage.

A boarded exterior door is ready before the Night 4 entity arrives.

Spend the countdown on complete defenses instead of waiting beside the counter.

N4-M12 — Fight from behind the prepared route until the alert ends

When the entity arrives, stay behind your traps and barricade line, track its approach, and fire from range. The hunt objective allows you to deal damage or hide until the entity leaves. Reload or switch weapons before it reaches melee distance, break line of sight when necessary, and do not remain inside a vent too long because the vent will eject you. When the red lighting and combat objective clear, return to the normal closing route.

The player aims a storage-room pistol at the alerted entity from inside the prepared Night 4 store.

The prepared choke point buys the distance needed to shoot safely.

Close Night 4

N4-M13 — Clean remaining messes and head to the bus

After the final correct transaction—or after surviving the conditional hunt—the objective changes to Your shift is done. Mop blood, bag remains, finish any cleanup already in progress, and leave for the bus. Do not keep interacting with optional visitors after the closing prompt; they are not required to finish Night 4.

The completed Night 4 objective tells the player to clean up and head to the bus.

Closing begins only after all required customer and event progress is complete.

N4-O03 — Check the quota and human-safety result

The completion screen shows store revenue, the quota, and whether any humans were killed. Revenue changes with sales, restocking, and the rat bonus, so do not use a recording's dollar total as a target. The stable success checks are a completed quota and No Humans Killed.

The Night 4 completion screen shows the quota result and No Humans Killed.

N4-O04 — Read the customer report before Night 5

Review every customer and driver in the report. If a doppelganger escaped, note whether you missed an abnormal body trait, an impossible vehicle part, a plate or description mismatch, or an inconsistent answer. If you killed a human, identify which ordinary crime or flexible trait you treated as proof. Carry that exact correction into Night 5 instead of memorizing this run's names.

The Night 4 customer report lists the decisions and missed or confirmed clues from the shift.

Night 4 evidence order

For a walk-in customer, use ID → N.E.T. record → portrait and traits → interview → decision. For a driver, use request → full flashlight sweep → exact plate registry → vehicle description → unlocked questions → decision → pump gas. If a red alert starts, the priority changes immediately to traps → barricades → storage weapon → ranged defense.

Common Night 4 failures

  • Pumping gas before the flashlight and registry objectives are complete.
  • Searching the plate in the indoor person database instead of the outdoor vehicle terminal.
  • Finding one item but leaving another car hotspot unchecked.
  • Shooting over firearms, an expired plate, clothing, or another ordinary crime without a supernatural contradiction.
  • Treating a matching plate as proof while ignoring a wrong body style, color, condition, or impossible interior.
  • Looking at the wrong hand because left and right were judged from the player's viewpoint.
  • Ignoring the ringing phone until the rat bonus timer is nearly over.
  • Continuing to restock after the 60-second entity alert begins.
